Overview
Trolls are the black forest's main threat and the reason to bring pierce damage — they take extra from pierce while ignoring chop and pickaxe attacks entirely. Blunt is resisted, so a mace is the wrong tool here. They drop troll hide, the material for a solid early armor set, plus coins and a trophy (listed as a frost troll trophy, at 50%).
Tactics
Trolls roam the black forest and sit at progression tier 2, carrying 600 health. Before engaging, check your weapon: pierce damage is the only thing they are weak to, so arrows or a spear are the reliable answer. Blunt is resisted — a mace or hammer will drag the fight out. Chop and pickaxe damage are ignored outright, so axe swings and pick swings do nothing of note. Fire, frost, and lightning all hit normally, and spirit is completely ineffective.
If you are fighting at range, keep cycling pierce shots and do not let it close. If you must go melee, commit to a piercing weapon and accept the longer kill time over switching to a resisted one. On death it drops coins, 5 troll hide, and has a 50% chance of a frost troll trophy. There is no taming behaviour in the data, so treat every troll as a fight.
